Children’s Privacy Notice (COPPA)

Prelude does not allow children to create accounts. All accounts are held by parents or legal guardians (18+). Child information (name, age, interests) is provided by the parent account holder solely to personalize activity recommendations. Prelude does not collect data directly from children, does not send communications to children, and does not use child data for advertising.

1. Who We Are

Prelude operates a marketplace platform connecting families with children’s enrichment providers in Los Angeles. We are based in Los Angeles, California. Questions about this policy: privacy@preludela.com.

2. Information We Collect

Parent / Guardian Account

  • Name and email address (required to create an account)
  • Password (stored in hashed form, never visible to us)
  • Booking history and transaction records
  • Communications you send to us

Child Profile (provided by parent)

  • Child’s first name or nickname (you may use a nickname)
  • Child’s age or date of birth (used to match age-appropriate programs)
  • Interests and goals (optional, used to personalize recommendations)

Child profile data is never shared with third parties for advertising purposes, never used for behavioral tracking, and never used to build a profile of the child beyond matching them to suitable activities.

Automatically Collected

  • Device type, browser, and IP address (for security and fraud prevention)
  • Pages visited and actions taken on the platform (only after cookie consent)

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account
  • To match child profiles with age-appropriate activities
  • To process bookings and payments via Stripe
  • To send booking confirmations and platform notifications
  • To send our newsletter (only if you subscribed)
  • To improve the platform and detect fraud
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use child data for advertising. We do not use behavioral advertising targeting children under any circumstances.

4. Cookies and Analytics

We use essential cookies required for the platform to function (authentication, security). We only load analytics or tracking scripts after you explicitly accept via our cookie consent banner. You may decline tracking and the platform will function normally.

You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies and re-visiting the site. Your choice is stored in your browser.

5. Information Sharing

We share your information only in these circumstances:

  • Providers: When you complete a booking, we share your name and the child’s name and age with the Provider to fulfill the booking.
  • Stripe: Payment data is processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Supabase: Our database infrastructure provider.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person.

We do not sell personal information to data brokers, advertisers, or any other third parties.

6. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Prelude complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our platform is designed for parents and guardians, not for use by children directly.

  • Children under 18 may not create accounts
  • All child profile data is entered by the parent or legal guardian
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13
  • Child data is used only for activity matching and booking fulfillment
  • We do not use child data for advertising or behavioral profiling

If you believe we have inadvertently received personal information directly from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at privacy@preludela.com and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights (CCPA / California Residents)

As a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you
  • Delete personal information we hold about you (subject to certain exceptions)
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising these rights

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@preludela.com. We will respond within 45 days. To request deletion of a child profile, include the child’s name and your account email.

8. Data Retention

We retain account and booking data for as long as your account is active and for up to 3 years after account deletion for legal and tax purposes. Child profile data is deleted within 30 days of an account deletion request. You may request deletion at any time.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed password storage, and access controls. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store card numbers. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by California law.
